We again have had a hugely successful gala dinner for 2010. Themed "Allsorts of Fun" a candy theme as it is our 6th year since the beginning of the foundation and candy is the gift for this year..
Being everything was candy themed we had a magnificent Candyland backdrop by Backdrops Fanastic, candy vases by Bliss Events as centerpieces and multi coloured licorice/candy sashes throughout the room. Ali Carle again was awesome mcing the nite and we danced the nite away to the band Flirt.
A massive thanks to Benita Molitor from Prestige Travel who at the last minute helped us out with a wonderful raffle prize to Kuala Lumpur… Also BIG THANKS to Will and Suzanne Taylor from Will Taylor Wines, Paul Buttery from Gemtree Wines, Coopers, Jason Goodes from Independent Distillers, Lindsay Warner, Harry and Steph Courtidis from Omega Picture Framers, Ali Carle, Adelaide Convention Centre and all that kindly donated time and auction items for the evening.
We raised an incredible $30,000 from the night which is fantastic
Good friend Dallas Coull from Tast the Barossa Tours held a Barossa tour on the 24th April for the foundation..
The 20 seater bus headed off for the small winery tour starting with coffee and cakes at the famous Lyndoch Bakery and then heading to Penfolds where the guests received a privae tasting including some of their flagship Grange - it is easy to see why this is referred to as the best Australian wine made.
Then on to Saltrams for a private tasting with 20% off all sales. We continued on to Peter Lehmann for their beautiful platter of local produce for lunch and finally finishing at Murray Street Winery. Penfolds kindly donated a 2003 RWT Magnum and Saltrams donated a 2003 Eighth Maker and both were auctioned on the day.
A Massive thanks to Dallas from Taste the Barossa Tours, Uby Faddoul from Fosters Group who organised the wonderful tastings and donations, Vilis who donated to a raffle we held on the tour bus and to all who came and enjoyed a fun filled day raising much needed funds for the foundation.
PlaygroupSA and the Beachouse event held on the Wed 24th March at the Beachouse, Glenelg was a huge success.
Approx 2000 people attended the event which had bouncy castles, face painting, rides in the Beachouse and the Ticklish Allsorts performing.
Thanks to PlaygroupSA, The Beachouse, Jane Reilly and all that helped on the day to make it a huge success and raise an incredible $1100 from gold coin donations. In late 2003, South Australian basketballer Brett Maher, Adelaide 36ers captain and multi-Olympian, and his wife Tanya tragically lost their little boy, Hudson.
Hudson was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disease called Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) when just 3 months old. Compounding the situation, the specialist treatment he required was available only in Sydney, so the Mahers had no choice but to take on the considerable cost and disheaval of temporarily relocating.
Sadly, of course, Hudson lost his brave fight. But despite Brett and Tanya's grief, they were deeply touched by the incredible support and assistance given them by the South Australian public during his illness.
And their lasting appreciation has inspired them to help others cope, financially and emotionally, with similar crises in their own lives, through the Hudson Maher Foundation..
